The Teacher’s Lesson part16
She told Helen that she was looking at a shocking photograph of her– and
that they needed to talk about it. They needed to talk about it right away,
like later tonight, like at 9 pm, an hour from now. Helen was to be ready to
be picked up promptly at 9, that the limousine of Dr. Hudson would pull up at
her front door exactly on time, and that Helen was to step immediately into
the back seat. Her punctuality was required, was demanded, and any tardiness
on her part would be sternly punished.
Helen gasped at that, at hearing about being sternly punished. She had heard
once that Mrs. Hudson had punished a student, a senior girl named Amy Shaw,
who had gotten pregnant, had an abortion, and returned to school so that she
might graduate. Before being readmitted, she was required to call on Mrs.
Hudson to be lectured. It was a very different lecture from what she
expected.
